The short answer

Studio City is a production and creator town in a soft production market. On-location filming across Los Angeles fell 16.1% in 2025 and the 55-acre Radford Studio Center went into foreclosure in January 2026. Pick an agency that can build demand outside the studio pipeline, not just amplify what is already there.

The production base is real, and it is under pressure

Studio City is named after a studio, and the naming still describes the economy. Radford Studio Center, the 55-acre lot founded in 1928 as Republic Studios and the home of Gunsmoke, Seinfeld and The Mary Tyler Moore Show, went into foreclosure in January 2026 after its owner defaulted on a $1.1 billion mortgage, with Goldman Sachs stepping in as lender (Beverly Press). That is not a footnote for local businesses. It is a signal about the flow of production spend through the neighbourhood.

The wider picture matches. On-location production across Los Angeles fell 16.1% across 2025, even with California’s revamped tax incentive helping fuel small growth in the fourth quarter (FilmLA data reported by Deadline). If your business supplies production, whether that is post, catering, equipment, wardrobe, transport or professional services to producers, a marketing plan built on the assumption of stable production volume is a plan built on a shrinking base.

The creator economy is the other half of the street

The thing that has changed in Studio City over the past decade is that the buyers are no longer only studios. They are individuals with audiences. YouTube’s creator ecosystem contributed $55 billion to U.S. GDP in 2024 and supported the equivalent of 490,000 full-time jobs, with more than $70 billion paid to creators, artists and media companies between 2021 and 2023 (YouTube 2024 US Impact Report). A meaningful share of the people spending that money on editors, colourists, studio space, gear rental, business managers and lawyers live and work within a few miles of Ventura and Laurel Canyon.

That buyer behaves nothing like a studio procurement department. They decide in days, not quarters. They discover vendors through social proof and word of mouth rather than approved vendor lists. They are price-sensitive at the low end and completely price-insensitive at the top. Selling to both a studio and a creator with one message is how agencies waste a year here.

There is also a tax detail worth knowing. Studio City sits inside Los Angeles city limits, so the Los Angeles Business Tax applies at $4.25 per $1,000 of gross receipts for professions and occupations (L.A. Office of Finance). The city also runs a creative artist exemption covering up to $300,000 in total taxable and non-taxable gross receipts, alongside a small business exemption under $100,000 worldwide (L.A. Office of Finance). In a neighbourhood full of writers, editors, composers and performers, that exemption is one of the more consequential local facts almost nobody checks.

Who actually lives here

The Sherman Oaks-Studio City-Toluca Lake-Cahuenga Pass community plan area holds 83,671 residents in 40,286 occupied dwelling units, with a median household income of $112,781 and a median household size of just 2.06 (Los Angeles City Planning demographic profile). Two people per household at a $112,781 median income is a very particular consumer: high discretionary spend, low household logistics, heavy on dining, fitness, grooming, pets and services. Local consumer businesses here should be building for that person, not for a suburban family of four.

Studio City fact Figure What it changes
Radford Studio Center 55 acres, $1.1B mortgage default Production spend through the lot is uncertain
L.A. on-location production, 2025 Down 16.1% Studio-dependent vendors need diversification
Community plan area population 83,671 Compact, affluent local consumer base
Median household size 2.06 Couples and singles, not large families
L.A. creative artist exemption Up to $300,000 Many local sole traders owe no city business tax

What local search competition looks like here

Studio City has a compact, linear commercial spine along Ventura Boulevard and heavy overlap with Sherman Oaks, North Hollywood and Toluca Lake in every local search radius. Google ranks local results on relevance, distance and prominence (Google Business Profile Help), and in a corridor this narrow, four competitors can be within the same half mile. That pushes the fight onto prominence and onto category specificity: an editor who is listed as a “video production service” competes with everyone, while one listed and described precisely competes with far fewer.

The bigger shift is that creator-economy buyers now ask assistants for vendor recommendations before they search. Being named in that answer depends on how your work, credits and reviews are structured and where they are published, which is exactly what Get Found addresses.

What we would do

TACK™ is headquartered on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks with production studios in Northridge. Studio City is the next stretch of the same boulevard, five minutes east. We are genuinely local here and we do not claim a Studio City address.

Since 2009 we have run more than 2,500 campaigns for 300-plus brands across 15-plus industries. We are a Google, Meta, Shopify and TikTok Partner, client satisfaction sits at 97%, and engagements start at $5,000 a month.

For a Studio City business we start by naming the buyer: studio, creator, or local consumer. Studio work means credibility assets, referral systems and patience. Creator work means visible proof, fast response and social distribution. Local consumer work means Business Profile, reviews and tight geographic paid media, which is Get Leads. Having our own studios in Northridge means we can produce the volume of creative these channels consume rather than rationing it. We are AI integrators rather than trainers, so where scheduling, quoting or reporting is eating hours, we build the automation in. Recent work is on our case studies page.

Three mistakes that cost Studio City businesses money

Assuming production volume returns on its own. With on-location shoot days down 16.1% in 2025, a vendor whose pipeline is entirely studio-fed has a concentration problem that more advertising will not solve.

Selling to creators like they are studios. Rate cards, long proposals and procurement language kill deals with a buyer who decides in 48 hours from a portfolio and a reply time.

Skipping the creative artist exemption. Sole traders in this neighbourhood regularly pay Los Angeles business tax they did not owe because the exemption was never filed.

The bottom line

Studio City has a real production base under real pressure and a fast-growing creator buyer alongside it, wrapped in an affluent, small-household consumer market. Your agency should say plainly which of those three it is building for.
