The short answer
Irvine is a master-planned corporate campus market, not a street-front one. Median household income is $136,719, 70.6% of adults hold a bachelor’s degree, and the city’s innovation sectors carry average wages up to $152,664. Choose an agency that can sell to technical, research-driven buyers rather than run generic local campaigns.
Irvine’s buyers are technical, and they research before they call
The U.S. Census Bureau puts Irvine at 318,764 residents as of July 2025, with a median household income of $136,719, per capita income of $64,055, and 70.6% of adults aged 25 and over holding a bachelor’s degree or higher (U.S. Census QuickFacts). Seventy percent degree attainment across a city of more than 300,000 people is close to unique in California. It changes what marketing has to do. These buyers read specifications, compare vendors in spreadsheets, and are unimpressed by claims without evidence.
The industry base matches. The City of Irvine’s own innovation economy analysis counts 22,330 jobs in enabling and creative technologies at an average wage of $152,664, 21,220 jobs in healthcare innovation at $62,635, and 19,424 jobs in medical technologies at $115,711, with the city rated a “strong innovator” across most metrics (City of Irvine, Irvine’s Innovation Economy). The Greater Irvine Chamber lists the University of California, Irvine as the city’s largest employer, alongside Edwards Lifesciences, Broadcom, Masimo, Ingram Micro, Alteryx, Mazda, Rivian, Blizzard Entertainment, Taco Bell, Parker Aerospace, Hoag and Kaiser Permanente, with technology spanning medical devices, biochemical, automotive, energy, fibre communications, cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing (Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce).
Master planning changes how people find businesses
Irvine is not a city of high streets. It is a city of planned villages and business parks, with parks covering 26% of the land area and John Wayne Airport adjacent (Greater Irvine Chamber of Commerce). Most commercial activity happens in campuses and centres set back from arterial roads. Passing trade is close to nonexistent for anything outside a retail centre.
That has two consequences. First, discovery is almost entirely digital. There is no equivalent of walking down Ventura Boulevard and noticing a sign. Second, address hierarchy matters: buyers navigate by village and centre names, not by street. A service business that describes itself only as “in Irvine” is invisible to someone searching around the Irvine Spectrum, University Research Park or Woodbridge. Building content around the actual named districts is one of the highest-return local moves available here, and it is what almost nobody does.
The business tax is a flat fee, and that is worth understanding
Irvine’s business licence is not a gross receipts tax at all. The city’s published application shows a flat structure based on employee count: $68.57 for businesses with zero to four employees and $95.59 for businesses with five or more, plus a $4.00 state-mandated AB 1379 fee (City of Irvine Business License Application). Compare that to a business inside Los Angeles city limits paying $4.25 per $1,000 of gross receipts on professions and occupations (L.A. Office of Finance). On a $10 million professional services firm, that is a difference of tens of thousands of dollars a year in city tax alone. Rates change, so confirm the current schedule, but the structural point holds: Orange County is a materially cheaper place to hold an address than the City of Los Angeles.
| Irvine fact | Figure | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Population | 318,764 | Large market, but campus-based not street-based |
| Bachelor’s degree or higher | 70.6% | Evidence-led buyers, technical content required |
| Enabling and creative tech jobs | 22,330 at $152,664 average wage | High-value B2B and premium consumer market |
| Medical technology jobs | 19,424 at $115,711 average wage | Regulated buyers with long procurement cycles |
| City business licence | Flat fee by headcount | Far lower city tax burden than Los Angeles |
What local search competition looks like here
Irvine is competitive but in a specific way. Because the city is planned and low-density at street level, Google’s local ranking factors of relevance, distance and prominence (Google Business Profile Help) play out across long distances. A searcher in Northwood and a searcher at the Spectrum are seven miles apart and see materially different results. Businesses that treat Irvine as one radius lose half the city.
On the B2B side, the map pack is largely irrelevant. Medical device, biotech and enterprise technology buyers shortlist through peer referral, industry publications, conference presence and, increasingly, AI assistants that summarise a vendor category before anyone runs a search. Whether you are named in that summary depends on how your evidence, specifications and case material are published, which is what Get Found addresses.
What we would do, and where we actually are
To be direct: TACK™ has no Irvine office and no Orange County office. We are headquartered on Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks with production studios in Northridge, and we serve Orange County clients remotely, travelling down when the work needs it. Plenty of agencies claim an Irvine address that turns out to be a mail drop in an executive suite. Ask for the address and ask who works there.
Since 2009 we have run more than 2,500 campaigns for 300-plus brands across 15-plus industries. We are a Google, Meta, Shopify and TikTok Partner, client satisfaction sits at 97%, and engagements start at $5,000 a month.
For an Irvine business we start with the evidence problem. A technical buyer with a graduate degree will not accept marketing claims without proof, so the first work is usually turning what you actually know into published, citable material. Then we build district-level local presence rather than a single city page, and bound paid media to the villages and centres that convert, which is Get Leads. We are AI integrators rather than trainers, so where quoting, intake or reporting is consuming engineering or admin hours, we build the automation into the operation. The full range is on our capabilities page.
Three mistakes that cost Irvine businesses money
Marketing to Irvine as one place. The Spectrum, University Research Park, Woodbridge and Northwood are separate search markets. One radius will not cover them.
Claims without evidence. In a city where 70.6% of adults hold a degree and the highest-paid sectors are technical, unsupported superlatives actively reduce trust.
Copying a Los Angeles cost model. Irvine’s flat business licence and Orange County’s cost structure mean your margin maths is different. Budget from your own numbers, not a Los Angeles benchmark.
The bottom line
Irvine is a planned city of technical, well-paid, evidence-driven buyers spread across separate villages and business parks, with a flat business licence instead of a gross receipts tax. The right agency will build district-level presence and publish real proof rather than run one generic city campaign.
